TEDxBrayfordPoolSalon: Be Creative!
Updated: Jun 12, 2019
Just over a week ago we held our second TEDxBrayfordPoolSalon event. We’re rather proud of our salon programme as it’s co-curated by the audience, which means they get to choose the next topic and suggest future topics too. In January the audience chose “Be Creative! – An exploration of creativity and creative confidence.” hosted by TEDxBrayfordPool curator, Andy Farenden.
Andy welcomed a sell-out audience to Lincoln Drill Hall and introduced Elizabeth Gilbert’s “Your Elusive Genius” and David Kelley’s “How to Build Creative Confidence” over pizza and drinks.
The TEDxBrayfordPoolSalon team like to keep the audience on their toes and use a different method each month to facilitate discussion around the topic to keep things interesting. With this in mind, the team challenged the audience to create a method of protecting an egg to ensure it was in tact after being dropped from a height.
The audience was split in to 6 teams of four, told that they could use anything in the room they could lay their hands on and invited to think creatively about how to keep their egg from smashing. They were also told bonus points were awarded for creativity, design and egg-based puns.
Five out of six creations survived two drops which it all came down to the bonus points - our winners created an amazing parachute that survived both drops and were the only team who decorated their egg too. They received a fitting prize of an Easter egg!
In addition to our eggcellent (groan!) adventures, we also launched this year's theme for TEDxBrayfordPool 2018 and opened speaker applications!
You can see all of the photos from February's salon on our Facebook page.
Finally our amazing, and remarkably not covered in egg, audience voted on the topic for March's salon:
Tickets are now on sale for Do it now! Maybe? - an exploration of procrastination and motivation, hosted by TEDxBrayfordPoolSalon co-ordinator Heidi de Wolf. Hopefully you won't procrastinate and buy your ticket early from our Eventbrite page. We look forward to seeing you!
