Despite the inclement weather our brave co-curating audience joined us for the third installment of our TEDxBrayfordPoolSalon programme.
This month's chosen topic "Do it now! Maybe? - An exploration of motivation and procrastination" was hosted by TEDxBrayfordPoolSalon curator Heidi De Wolf.
Heidi chose Dan Pink's "The puzzle of motivation" and Tim Urban's "Inside the mind of a master procrastinator" to fuel the discussion over pizza and beers before opening up four unique discussions around purpose, autonomy, mastery and procrastination.
Our intrepid audience had the chance to interact with three facilitated activities and one self-facilitated. Heidi led an open exploration, discussion and application of the concepts as introduced in the two TED videos. The objective was to provide helpful insights to what these concepts mean to different people and how they apply to our everyday work & life.
Chris led a discussion around mastery using strength cards to showcase people's individual success stories. Each card features a picture and a word - the sock puppet = humorous. Asking the participants to choose a card that they identify with their greatest success and then to talk to the group about it.
And Andy led discussion around procrastination by playing "pin the fail on the monkey" - yellow sticky notes represent things we've procrastinated over and green what we should have been doing.
Finally the participants explored autonomy on their own using Maslow's Four Stages of Competency.
The participants rounded off the night in the traditional way by voting on the topic for next month's salon:
