Brayford Pool is the heart of the City of Lincoln, Lincolnshire. It was a Roman port connecting the city to the sea during the reign of Emperor Nero. The north bank was regenerated in the latter twentieth century into a vibrant social hub. In the twenty first century, the south bank became home to the thriving University of Lincoln. It represents of the past, present and future of Lincoln as well as the ever-changing flow of ideas.
In conjunction with a global initiative to spread ideas further, the TEDx program was born in 2009 to enable individuals and communities worldwide to hold locally relevant and independent events. As part of the global TEDx community spanning over 150 countries, TEDxBrayfordPool is Lincoln’s very own platform for ideas worth spreading.
Over the past few years there has been an increasing spotlight on the city of Lincoln. It is fast becoming a cultural hub while maintaining strong links to its heritage - it’s the birthplace of mathematician George Boole, the tank and, during the First World War was one of the largest producers of aeroplanes in the country. It’s a city of academic success across a variety of fronts including teacher training, biochemistry and engineering. It’s the perfect place to generate ideas worth spreading via TEDx, and last two year we proved it!
In 2018 the TEDxBrayfordPool series became one of the fastest growing TEDx series in the UK.
Now in our third year TEDxBrayfordPool and TEDxYouth@BrayfordPool bring national and global attention to Lincoln. These two annual events highlight the best ideas and innovations that the people of Lincoln have to their community and beyond.
TEDxBrayfordPool gives an opportunity for business and community leaders, academics, and innovators to showcase their ideas in unique environment that isn’t available anywhere else in the city. TEDxYouth@BrayfordPool is organised by young people, for young people, and is a place for pioneers, free thinkers, and doers to champion the things that matter to them.
With the addition of the TEDxBrayfordPoolSalon series - unique, intimate gatherings that spark discussion co-curated by the wider community - and TEDxBrayfordPoolWomen we're creating an increasingly strong platform for wider impact driven collaboration in Lincoln.
TED is a nonprofit organization devoted to Ideas Worth Spreading. Started as a four-day conference in California 30 years ago, TED has grown to support its mission with multiple initiatives. The two annual TED Conferences invite the world’s leading thinkers and doers to speak for 18 minutes or less. Many of these talks are then made available, free, at TED.com. TED speakers have included Bill Gates, Jane Goodall, Elizabeth Gilbert, Sir Richard Branson, Nandan Nilekani, Philippe Starck, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Sal Khan and Daniel Kahneman.
The annual TED Conference takes place each spring in Vancouver, British Columbia, along with the TEDActive simulcast event in nearby Whistler. The annual TEDGlobal conference will be held this October in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. TED’s media initiatives include TED.com, where new TED Talks are posted daily; the Open Translation Project, which provides subtitles and interactive transcripts as well as translations from volunteers worldwide; the educational initiative TED-Ed. TED has established the annual TED Prize, The Audacious Project, where exceptional individuals with a wish to change the world get help translating their wishes into action; TEDx, which supports individuals or groups in hosting local, self- organized TED-style events around the world, and the TED Fellows program, helping world-changing innovators from around the globe to amplify the impact of their remarkable projects and activities.
A TEDx event is a local gathering where live TED-like talks and videos previously recorded at TED conferences are shared with the community. TEDx events are fully planned and coordinated independently, on a community-by-community basis by unpaid volunteers. The content and design of each TEDx event is unique and developed independently, but all of them have features in common.

Andy is a human-centred designer and Team Academy team coach. He is passionate about building better communities through impact and innovation driven social change.
As an advocate for collaborative partnerships he believes TEDxBrayfordPool is the perfect opportunity to work together to change our locality.
Kieran is an avid fan of TED Talks and has been instrumental in making TEDx happen in Lincoln. He ensures smooth operation of live speaker stages and heads up the production team.
He currently works as a freelance audio engineer and tour manager within the live events industry.
Owen is a second year Business (Team Entrepreneurship) student at Bishop Grosseteste University in Lincoln. Along side his studies he runs a successful diversity training organisation called DAIT
Having spoken at TEDxYouth@BrayfordPool in 2018 Owen joined TEDxBrayfordPoolSalon team as a facilitator and the TEDxYouth@BrayfordPool curation team.
Ruchi joined TEDxBrayfordPool team having been a speaker in 2018. She is a Marketing and Strategy professional with over 2 decades of multi-industry, cross cultural experience in UK and India, with a track record of success and innovation. She was Microsoft India’s representative to the Anita Borg Institute which runs the renowned Grace Hopper event for Women in IT.
Sue joined TEDxBrayfordPool team after becoming a speaker in 2018. She is an award-winning business leader, human capital innovation consultant and chair of senior executive forums. With an impressive track record working internationally for some of the world's leading corporations, Sue helps board level decision makers to successfully shift their thinking, develop themselves and grow their organisations.
Sarah is a Lincoln based singer songwriter whose style is quite candid and autobiographical, which she hopes makes her music relatable.
After performing at TEDxBrayfordPool in 2018 she joined the team as a performer coordinator to help bring forward the next wave of performers. She's also part of the TEDxBrayfordPoolSalon facilitation team.
Ed currently works in the Student Support Centre at the University of Lincoln. He also volunteers with Age UK and Lincolnshire Speakers.
He is interested in ensuring that speakers have the best opportunity to present their ideas and giving volunteers the chance to meet and listen to TEDx speakers and delegates. Ed enjoys listening to TED Talks on Higher Education and talks on predicting the future.
Having spent 20 years running his own business Richard work around the world as a business speaker and business consultant.
He joined the TEDx team to offer his help to future speakers after speaking at the inaugural TEDxBrayfordPool in 2017.
They/them: Non-binary facilitator who is convinced that by being a considerate punk you can help people achieve a lot more than the establishment has told them they can.
They are a master storyteller, a dungeon & dragon's games master and social activist. They are working locally to change the face of Lincoln’s art scene, curating inclusive communities is my thaumaturgy.
Caleb is currently studying technical theatre and live events in Lincoln and is aspiring to become a professional lighting designer / programmer.
Wanting to expand his knowledge of different types of events and roles within his area of studies he joined the TEDxBrayfordPool team in 2018.
Jacob is half artist, half sociologist, half physiotherapist who adores to question and to be questioned.
He's also the author of “The Gratitude Guide” and joins the coaching team to support young people with ideas worth spreading after having spoken at TEDxBrayfordPool in 2018.
Charlotte graduated from the University of Lincoln in 2014. She’s worked with groups of vulnerable adults and young people, is a poet and spoken word performer, and TEDxYouth@BrayfordPool alumni.
Charlotte joined the TEDxYouth@BrayfordPool team in 2019 to help raise our schools engagement and encourage more young people to take to the TEDx stage.
Katy is an accomplished conference speaker and coach who now shares her vast experience of working with Global brands. Her expertise is in training public speaking and advanced presentation skills, including non-verbal patterns of communication and transforming stage presence.
Having attended the first TEDxBrayfordPool event she’s delighted to join the team.
Following a multi-disciplinary career as a researcher, crime scene investigation specialist, and academic, Jo founded her coaching practice in Lincoln in 2017. She supports individuals with their personal and professional performance, particularly in respect of optimising their mental efficiency for accelerated success. She joins the TEDxBrayfordPool team to support the TEDxBrayfordPoolWomen events.
TEDxYouth@BrayfordPool alumni and now university lecturer Louis, joined the team to help develop and support the next generation of TEDxYouth@BrayfordPool speakers.
He's passionate about helping young people share their "ideas worth spreading" and proud to be able to support their development.
Stephen’s passion for photography started over a decade ago and since then he has immersed himself in it completely. He runs his own fashion and portraiture business and lecturers on Lincoln College’s Level 3 Photography course.
An avid TED fan he joins the TEDxBrayfordPool team as our portrait photographer capturing our team, speakers and performers at their best.
Annie joins the TEDxBrayfordPool team fresh off the back of her talk at TEDxYouth@BrayfordPool 2019: Being Human. She's a published blogger for a variety of organsiations including Student Minds, BBC Bitesize and The Guardian.
She creates awesome online content to help enhance the TEDxBrayfordPool series.
