About TEDxBrayfordPool

Brayford Pool is the heart of the City of Lincoln, Lincolnshire. It was a Roman port connecting the city to the sea during the reign of Emperor Nero. The north bank was regenerated in the latter twentieth century into a vibrant social hub. In the twenty first century, the south bank became home to the thriving University of Lincoln. It represents of the past, present and future of Lincoln as well as the ever-changing flow of ideas.

In conjunction with a global initiative to spread ideas further, the TEDx program was born in 2009 to enable individuals and communities worldwide to hold locally relevant and independent events. As part of the global TEDx community spanning over 150 countries, TEDxBrayfordPool is Lincoln’s very own platform for ideas worth spreading.

Over the past few years, there has been an increasing spotlight on the city of Lincoln. It is fast becoming a cultural hub while maintaining strong links to its heritage - it’s the birthplace of mathematician George Boole, the tank and, during the First World War was one of the largest producers of aeroplanes in the country. It’s a city of academic success across a variety of fronts including teacher training, biochemistry and engineering. It’s the perfect place to generate ideas worth spreading via TEDx, and year on year, we keep proving it!

In 2018 the TEDxBrayfordPool series became one of the fastest growing TEDx series in the UK.

Lincoln has embraced the TEDx experience like no other and within a week of our first event in October 2017, we hosted our first TEDxYouth@BrayfordPool event specifically for those aged 16 to 26.

Our speaker programme events sell out every year and we are one of the fastest-growing TEDx series in the UK based on our license expansions and engagement across our events. Our series now includes annual conferences, special TEDx events such as TEDxWomen and vibrant TEDxSalon events.

We’ve engaged with over 1000 people through the series since we started and to date, the videos from our events have been viewed 220,000+ times. We’ve also helped grow the TEDx community across England supporting the development of TEDxDoncaster and TEDxPeterbrough, and in Wales with TEDxNantymoel.

TED is a nonprofit organization devoted to Ideas Worth Spreading. Started as a four-day conference in California 30 years ago, TED has grown to support its mission with multiple initiatives. The two annual TED Conferences invite the world’s leading thinkers and doers to speak for 18 minutes or less. Many of these talks are then made available, free, at TED speakers have included Bill Gates, Jane Goodall, Elizabeth Gilbert, Sir Richard Branson, Nandan Nilekani, Philippe Starck, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Sal Khan and Daniel Kahneman.

The annual TED Conference takes place each spring in Vancouver, British Columbia, along with the TEDActive simulcast event in nearby Whistler. The annual TEDGlobal conference will be held this October in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. TED’s media initiatives include, where new TED Talks are posted daily; the Open Translation Project, which provides subtitles and interactive transcripts as well as translations from volunteers worldwide; the educational initiative TED-Ed. TED has established the annual TED Prize, The Audacious Project, where exceptional individuals with a wish to change the world get help translating their wishes into action; TEDx, which supports individuals or groups in hosting local, self- organized TED-style events around the world, and the TED Fellows program, helping world-changing innovators from around the globe to amplify the impact of their remarkable projects and activities.

About TED

A TEDx event is a local gathering where live TED-like talks and videos previously recorded at TED conferences are shared with the community. TEDx events are fully planned and coordinated independently, on a community-by-community basis by unpaid volunteers. The content and design of each TEDx event is unique and developed independently, but all of them have features in common.
