TED2022 A NEW ERA
A lot has changed since TED last gathered in Vancouver three years ago. We return not for more of the same, wonderful though that was, but to celebrate a new era. Despite the awfulness we’ve lived through, the future beckons with extraordinary possibilities we couldn’t have dreamt of. In medicine, in AI, in clean energy, in the ways we work, the ways we learn, and in the fundamental economic and social systems that underpin everything else.
YEAR 5: OUR NEW ERA
Much like TED a lot has changed in the last three years here in Lincoln. After living through a once in a lifetime pandemic event we get to decide what we keep, and what we let go of, in this world of “business unusual”. This year as we gather again in person to celebrate ideas worth spreading, we look towards our new era building the community we want to be part of.
This year the TEDxBrayfordPool series focuses on turning ideas into action. We’ll be creating opportunities to activate the ideas we share this year, as well as those shared in past years. To help rediscover and celebrate the remarkable place we call home.
This year our flagship TEDxBrayfordPool event returns to an in-person format, and to our home at the Engine Shed. We’ll be showcasing exceptional speakers and performers from our community as they share their ‘ideas worth spreading’ and offering some brilliant workshops throughout the day in conjunction with some of our amazing partners.
We’ll also be expanding our programme to include a full day TEDxAdventure the day after our flagship event. We’ll be delivering incredible opportunities to delve deeper into our speaker’s ideas, explore our city, experiment in our lab space, experience some one of a kind activation and participate in workshops and discussions co-curated with our speakers and partners, all designed to build a deeper connection with our community.
We’re relaunching TEDxYouth@BrayfordPool to create a full day event mixing a TEDxAdventure with a half-day conference featuring incredible young people aged 16 to 26. We’ll be offering some great co-curated opportunities to explore, experiment and engage in our amazing city.
The programme will be split across two sites with the TEDxYouth@BrayfordPool conference taking place on The Platform at the Engine Shed.
We’re also reformatting our TEDxBrayfordPoolSalon events as we expand our capacities and take the salons on tour around the City of Lincoln. We’ll continue to explore single topics screening incredible TED and TEDx Talks to spark conversation, but we’ll be giving you far more opportunities to put those ideas into action.
We’ll be exploring three key topics this year; re-evaluating the way we work to create a better balance, how we reconnect our communities in a post-pandemic world and our planet’s future through food, agriculture and the environment.
We're adding some amazing new activities and opportunities to support our speakers, develop shared ownership and co-curation with our community, turn ideas into actions and
ensure a truly unforgettable experience for everyone
who attends and participates in our events throughout the year.
We’ll be launching four activation stations at our flagship TEDxBrayfordPool event and the TEDxAdventure the following day.
We plan to develop creative experiences and experiments with this year's speakers, alumni speakers, local artists, technologists and the wider community to deliver some fantastic and innovative opportunities for our audience.
This year we're introducing Speaker Dinners. They're an exclusive private dinner for all our speakers, their families, core organisers and presentation partners before our main events. Its an opportunity to break bread and share a meal to build community among our current speaker cohorts.
Working with independent restaurant Kine, we hope to create some truly incredible moments for the entire production.
We plan speeches, words of encouragement and maybe even some exclusive swag too.
Every year we give speakers and performers the opportunity to share ideas from our community, but this year we want to shine an even bigger spotlight on what makes Lincoln an amazing place to be.
We’re launching our inaugural TEDxBrayfordPool short film competition to create four 5 minute short films that showcase our community.
Three will debut at our flagship event in September and the fourth will premiere at TEDxYouth in November.

TEDxAdventures are pre- or post-conference in-person tours and activities designed to engage attendees and community members before and after your event.
Adventures usually include hands-on, interactive experiences with local community interests, or speakers from past and future events. This develops a sense of excitement for the ideas presented in our speaker events and also builds a sense of community ownership as they are centred around community engagement.
We want to co-curate our TEDxAdventure opportunities in July, September and November with our partners, the community, current and alumni speakers. We’re really excited to see what we can build together to show off Lincoln as the remarkable place that it is.
THE ENGINE SHED&PLATFORM
2022 sees the return of flagship event to the Engine Shed post-pandemic. This year we’ll be expanding our audience capacity to 300, hosting a full day speaker programme with breakout and workshop activities on Saturday 3rd September, followed by a day-long TEDxAdventure on Sunday 4th September with opportunities to engage in specially curated activities and discussions both on and off-site.
We’re relaunching TEDxYouth@BrayfordPool on Sunday 6th November on The Platform at the Engine Shed. We’ll be expanding the capacity to 170 guests and offering an off-site morning of TEDxAdventure at Lincoln Minster School followed by an afternoon of incredible speakers and performers all under the age of 26.
Our first TEDxBrayfordPool Salon event of the year takes place in May at Mosaic, Lincoln's Digital Hub - an innovative space developed collaboratively by the digital community in Lincoln to bring different digital and tech businesses together under one roof.
The Harper Building and grounds at Lincoln’s premier independent school plays host to our June TEDxBrayfordPoolSalon event and also the TEDxYouth@BrayfordPool TEDxAdventure activities in November.
Our final TEDxSalon and TEDxAdventure venue of 2022 will be Lincoln Agri-Robotics Centre, which houses state-of-the-art robotics facilities set in the 200-hectare Lincoln Institute for Agri-Food Technology.
